Good Hybrid pre-roll

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to Light Club. We match two pre-rolled joints against each other in a head-to-head smokedown. Both will be lit. Only one will win.

It was on our last visit to WeHo’s world-famous dispensary, Exhale Med Center, that we first noticed the “good” brand of bud. With their eye-catching package design, that eschews traditional symbols of marijuana culture for bright colors and bold letters in-line with a Wes Anderson aesthetic, we were especially charmed by the two types of pre-rolled joints we saw for sale. One was their Hybrid joint, which advertised ‘Focus & Inspiration,’ and the other was a Sativa twist that promised ‘Energy & Motivation.’

Alright, “good” flower, you had our curiosity; now you have our attention.

Long story short, we couldn’t help but pick up both varieties, anxious to see which one would strike us better after we struck our matches and lit up.

There’s a practice that is becoming common among these hip, brand-conscious growers. They believe they can appeal to a wider audience without funny names. Instead, they market the effects of their flower, thereby creating the association with medicine, instead of drugs.

That’s why our Sativa pre-roll comes with ‘Energy & Motivation’ scrawled on the box. Would it deliver on this promise? Only one way to find out.

Appearance: 3/5
We know that looks can be deceiving. And we hoped that was going to be the case here, because after unwrapping the package, we discovered this joint only had a basic, rather mundane look to it. It’s rolled in cartoon-white paper, and is neither too big, nor too small. It’s completely average in every single way.

Aroma: 4/5
Once we popped open the plastic tube, we took an inhale of an aroma that was both very strong and very lemony. But it wasn’t a natural lemon. It was an artificial, syrupy lemon that reminded us of Pine Sol. It wasn’t the best scent, but at least this joint was finally showing off a little personality.

Taste: 3/5
As we started to puff, we couldn’t help but admire the construction — the cone was evenly packed, and it was easy to drag on with a clean, firm grip. While the piece held up under pressure, it didn’t give us a taste that had our lips smacking. It tasted kind of bland, with that stale flower flavor that can befall even the best, most expensive pre-rolled joints.

Effect: 4/5
So, the real question is: Did this joint produce feelings of ‘Energy & Motivation’ within us?

Honestly, we have to say that it did. This joint gave us a good, warm high that made us feel great. It was buzzy and strong, but we weren’t submissive to it. We couldn’t resist the urge to get up and move our bodies. It was very energetic, to say the least.

Recommendation
This was a wonderful joint that made us feel absolutely great. Seeing the enormous, kief-covered, oil-dipped, pre-roll options out there can make one forget that, sometimes, the best joint is just some well-rolled, high-quality flower. And that’s exactly what this is. Nicely done, “good” flower.

‘Focus & Inspiration’ are the buzzwords that accompany this Hybrid joint. After a satisfying experience with their Sativa pre-roll, we were excited to see how this varietal would smoke.

Appearance: 3/5
Once again, this joint is a model of simplicity. It’s perfectly-shaped, evenly-packed, and shows off the darkened leaves underneath the crisp blank paper.

Aroma: 3/5
The aroma was one of the biggest surprises of the last joint we smoked, but this Hybrid offering did not live up to those olfactory standards. The scent was artificially sweet, but in a less discernible way. There was no specific flavor that popped out to our nose. The whole profile was a blending of scents that resulted in a vague, peachy odor.

Taste: 3/5
Following the scent’s lead, we found only a faint sweetness in the flavor of this smoke. Overall, the flower has a very neutral flavor that isn’t too heavy, and doesn’t coat your mouth with a bad aftertaste. It’s impact is minimal, making it ideal for a casual smoke session.

Effect: 3/5
Compared to the Sativa joint, we definitely had a stronger head buzz with this pre-roll. The high had similar vibes that relaxed our body and energized our spirits, but we weren’t as playful or curious as we were before. This time, our mind found something to focus on, and never let it go. We were excited and active, but not motivated enough to start moving our bodies. It was all about focus with this one. Which, was a nice sensation, but it just wasn’t our preference.

Recommendation
This “good” flower Hybrid joint is a pretty solid pre-roll. It was a heavier high than their Sativa. It still pepped us up, but put our minds on a much shorter leash. We enjoyed ourselves, and true to the Hybrid spirit, we felt like this embodied all the best qualities of both Indica and Sativa.

“good” flower Sativa.

And the winner is…

“good” flower Sativa.

This was most definitely a tough call. We were vexed by both joints — both were well-made specimens of quality engineered flower. But the Sativa high was just a better feeling. It was pure, fun, and made us want to move. The Hybrid joint kept us in our place (in our heads), and that was ultimately less exciting to us. But, it should be noted that both joints are of the highest quality, and we recommend both.
